Information: the INDEPENDENT HOTEL MURAL

Kim Senior's most recent commission was to create a mural for a new upscale boutique hotel, to be located at 1234 Locust, in a Georgian-Revival styled building that had been the Inn on Locust.
Working with interior designer Robert Moskowitz, Kim developed the image chosen for the mural, which would be located on a four story tall wall above the reception desk. Several ideas were sketched out and discussed, including one for a more historically related image.
The client was attracted to more ontemporary, semi-abstract painting of Kim's, which incorporated areas of gold leaf, and vibrant colors.
She decided to allude to local history expressed with the name Independent, and so chose the tower of Independence Hall for the source; for a joyous, exuberant, vivid statement that would convey the fresh attitude and excitement of spirit that is happening in Philly now.
The mural measures 30ft x 8ft, the mediums are acrylics and composition gold leaf. For more photos of the mural, check out Kim's blog.

How it Works
Initial phone consutations are free, as well as visits to the studio. Depending on distance, there may be a fee to consult at your location. Because every design is unique, factors including amount of detail, research, size, accessability will be considered before quoting a price.
It starts by discussing your ideas and how they can be realized in paint. You are welcome to send samples, personal photos, clippings, and measurements. Review resources from Kim's library of art books and sources, and portfolio of completed projects. To prepare a sketch of your mural, there is a design fee, to be agreed upon in advance (the sketch remains the property of the artist). With the sketch you will receive an estimate for the cost to do the mural.
Murals may be painted at your location, or in studio on muslin or canvas, and shipped anywhere for installation like wallpaper.
Bio
Kim studied painting and sculpture at Concordia University in Montreal: after receiving a BFA, participated in group exhibitions at the Musee d'Art Contemporain, Powerhouse Gallery and others. At this time she began working as a fibre artist in the sculptural tapestry atelier started by her husband Raimond del Noce Senior in Hudson, Quebec.
For ten years Design Senior produced numerous hand-woven large scale commissions for public, commercial and private spaces throughout North America. These projects used innovative off-loom techniques, include works for Aramco, CN, Ducks Unlimited, Gilette, Pfizer, the Shaw Festival Theatre and many others.
In 1981 Kim and her husband moved to Philadelphia and established a joint studio. She began her work in acrylics and mixed media, creating low-relief decorative panels, custom sculpted picture frames and ornaments.
Most recently she has been working primarily as a muralist and decorative painter: designing and painting children's murals, folding screens, as well as faux finishes and trompe l'oeil.
